Interns
We have sponsored Academic Interns from High Tech High. Sharon served as the mentor for two Juniors as they worked on a video project for STTRC. The students wrote, directed, and starred in video clips for elementary students. The videos introduced and explained simple science experiments in a friendly way. The clips can be viewed at www.youtube.com/sttrc.

Education Alley
The Science & Technology Teacher Resource Center supports American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) in the production of both Education Alley, "the ultimate field trip" for grades K-12 and in Passport to the Future, a national conference for teachers. In September 2008, STTRC Director, Sharon Freeburn, chaired the planning committee when Education Alley came to San Diego.

The Liberty School curriculum fosters creativity in students. From 2007-2009 Sharon Freeburn acted as the Adjunct Science Teacher for the program. She meet with each group of students once a week for an hour and a half to share with them her love of science. Using no text books she relied on getting students involved with materials by leading them in the inquiry process. They learned to ask questions and find answers. Students of all ages increased their observation skills, their ability to gather data, and their understanding of the world around them while working in a cooperative learning environment. As a part of the Liberty School program the Science & Technology Teacher Resource Center brought environmental education and space education programs to the third grade students of Dewey Elementary School in the spring & fall of 2008 as well as the spring of 2009. These units provided hands-on activities and games to make the learning fun. The seventh and eight grade students from ALBA (Alternative Learning for Behavior and Attitude) school joined Sharon in discovering that science is fun. During the 2007-2008 school year they explored concepts in Geology. In the fall of 2008
they experimented with Chemistry returning to Geology in the spring of 2009.
