Help us spread quality science education in San Diego County

With your support the Science and Technology Teacher Resource Center has been able to provide quality science education workshops and teacher materials. We seek to transform students’ STEM education experiences by providing student focused resources, programs and mentors.  We also seek to inspire and support teachers and administrators, helping them to concentrate on their students by providing explicit and effective resources.

Our center depends on community funding to achieve our mission.  We need your help.  At this time of year companies and individuals are looking for tax-deductible programs to support. Would you please consider giving a gift to our Center?  Would you also spread the word about us to your friends, neighbors, clubs and social organizations?  Our team would be delighted to speak at your organization events or club meetings.

Every dollar raised goes towards providing teachers with:
· a "distribution center" for free classroom materials recycled from industry, conferences and conventions
·  a "library/resource center" with over 200 sets of science and technology curriculum materials created government agencies
·  a "meeting place" for professional gatherings and teacher professional development workshops

Donating is easy. Just push the “Donate Now” icon at the top of the page.

Thank you again for helping create a better quality of life in San Diego.

Give a man a fish and
you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish and
you feed him for a lifetime
.
fish

This Chinese proverb is at the heart of our educational philosophy.
We are frequently asked if we can come to a school and do science activities with children. The answer is “No”, but we are delighted to come to a school and give a workshop or series of in-services that will give the teachers the tools and skills they need to improve the science they provide to their students. If we come to a school and work with the students we provide a single experience. When the teachers attend a workshop and learn ways to improve how they teach science they reach this year’s students and the students in future classes as well.

Join us this Winter and learn to “fish” so you can change your science teaching for a lifetime!

Science & Technology Teacher Resource Center

A Library and Resource Center for educators to learn about FREE science and technology curriculum materials.

STTRC library

STTRC has established a library of materials including educational software, booklets, posters , and handouts created by government agencies (NASA, EPA), professional societies and commercial companies. Despite these entities best advertising efforts teachers normally do not know where to find these free or low cost resources nor do they have time to seek them out. STTRC has organized these rich resources for teachers to conveniently review and determine which ones would enrich their students’ learning experiences.

A Distribution Center where San Diego County teachers can obtain FREE classroom materials.

STTRC materials

Teachers’ resources are stretched to the limit and many of us have to purchase basic materials, including pencils, paper, and pens, out of our own funds.

Convention items are discarded in San Diego, a mecca for science and technology conventions and conferences, big and small. These events typically have exhibit areas where vendors display products and give away trinkets, most of which are of great value to us as teachers. What vendors don’t use they abandon. Government and commercial offices also discard materials whenever a marketing campaign ends, companies merge, change names or leave behind materials when they move.

Our solution? STTRC volunteers collect, sort, shelve and display these teacher treasures for pickup after school.
